Turkey Tail also knows as Coriolus versicolor or Trametes versicolor is a medicinal mushroom that has been used in traditional Eastern medicine for centuries. Turkey Tail mushroom is well known for its ability to stimulate and enhance the immune system.* There are two extracts derived from Turkey Tail which are of primary interest in the scientific world, PSP (Polysaccharide Peptide), and PSK (Polysaccharide Krestin). Both of these extracts are currently being used in some countries as immunologic adjuvants for treatments.*
The FDA has recently approved the use of a Turkey Tail extract for clinical trials to be used on cancer patients. The research has been a collaboration of reaearchers from Bastyr University, the University of Washington, and was funded by the National Institutes of Health. The aim is to find out how effective Turkey Tail is on boosting the immune system along with traditional cancer therapy.
